Energy and Environment
VLP's Energy and Environment Practice Group advises companies on a broad array of transactional and regulatory matters relating to the development, use and protection of natural resources. We are an interdisciplinary group of practitioners who have substantial knowledge of existing and emerging technologies across a range of industries. We offer our clients creative and cost-efficient solutions to complex projects and problems.
Environmental Compliance. We assist companies in navigating the complex web of federal and state environmental laws and regulations. We have considerable experience counseling clients on defending claims under hazardous waste laws, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act, among others. We also assist companies who are conducting internal assessments and enhancements of their compliance programs.
Climate Change and Sustainability. Restructuring our nation's energy economy and managing climate change are among the current administration's highest domestic priorities. Existing and emerging companies in a wide range of industries are being affected by these legislative and regulatory changes. Our attorneys can assist companies in evaluating and managing the impact of these changes on their organization. We also have experience in counseling companies on issues relating to sustainability business practices, including, including energy efficiency, green buildings, energy management technologies, greenhouse gas emissions and reducing waste. Government Relations. Our practitioners counsel clients across a range of industry sectors on emerging legislative and regulatory developments at the state, national and international level, and how they might affect individual companies. We can assist companies in tracking legislation, preparing comments on draft regulations, and identifying relevant government programs. We also assist clients in accessing the range of government incentives being offered to support the development of a clean energy economy. Our lawyers have assisted clients in multiple successful funding applications, including stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and are now counseling clients on the legal, regulatory and contractual issues associated with that funding.
Clean Tech and Renewable Energy. We work with startup and growth stage companies who are changing the world. Our clients are developing alternative energy, waste mitigation, transportation infrastructure and software tools to alleviate climate change and resource scarcity issues. We bring together subject matter experts in corporate structuring, venture capital and angel financings, government incentives, patent, trademark, technology licensing, real estate and project finance as required to complete projects efficiently and cost-effectively.
