David Roise is a Partner at VLP. David's practice focuses on the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, both in the U.S. and throughout the world. He has technical experience in small-molecule pharmaceuticals, drug screening methodology, genetic diagnostics, biotechnological methods and products, stem cell technology, and medical devices. He also provides strategic patent counseling, patentability and freedom-to-operate searching, and patent due diligence.

David was a basic scientist prior to attending law school. He received a Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and performed post-doctoral research on mitochondrial protein transport in Switzerland before becoming an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of California, San Diego. David's laboratory at UCSD developed novel biophysical methods for studying the translocation of peptides and proteins across biological membranes. After attending Stanford Law School, David joined IP boutique Fish & Neave, later Ropes & Gray LLP, where his practice included early-stage patent litigation, non-infringement and invalidity opinion writing, patentability and freedom-to-operate searching, patent due diligence, and patent prosecution in all of the above areas of technology.

David is a member of the State Bar of California and is registered to practice in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
