Byron RodrÃguez is a Partner of VLP. Prior to VLP, Byron was at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. He represents developers and investors in the acquisition, entitlement, leasing, rehabilitation, construction, development and financing of residential, commercial, energy, industrial and mixed-use projects, particularly focusing on projects with tax-advantaged capital structures.
In addition to conventional debt and equity financing sources, his clients finance real estate projects with capital structures utilizing federal and state low income housing tax credits, new markets tax credits, renewable energy tax credits, private activity and 501(c)(3) bonds and similar public financing sources. He also advises on various federal, state and local housing programs and related regulatory matters, property tax abatement and prevailing wage requirements, and renewable energy subsidies.
Byron also represents borrowers financing equipment and other personal property with both conventional and tax-driven sources and real estate owners and developers in a wide range of joint venture transactions.
Byron graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington and received his JD from The University of Chicago Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of California.
In addition to his legal practice, Byron is a principal of Global Building Materials, LLC, a company that sources made-to-order cabinets, granite, tile and other similar materials and finishes to large-scale construction projects directly from factories in China. He is active in the San Francisco community and is the Vice President of the Board of Directors for San Francisco Beautiful and a graduate of the 2007-2008 class of Leadership San Francisco. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and SPUR.
